Workshop on Talent Attraction and HR Management in Research & RESAVER - Nicosia, Cyprus 10 October 2025
On October 10, The Cyprus Institute in Nicosia hosted a workshop on Research Talent Attraction, bringing together over 60 participants from 14 Cypriot organisations. The event highlighted initiatives to strengthen support for researchers and enhance Cyprus’ visibility within the European Research Area.
Speakers included Konstantinos Kleovoulou, Deputy Minister for Research, Innovation and Digital Transformation, Prof. Stavros Malas, President of The Cyprus Institute, and Irene Georgalla, Head of the Office of the Deputy Minister to the President, who shared insights on the Minds in Cyprus initiative and government strategies to attract research talent. Silvia Gómez Recio (YERUN) and Slaven Misljencevic (European Commission) discussed efforts to promote brain circulation and sustainable research careers across Europe.
Panels focused on HR strategies to attract and retain talent and on financial wellbeing for researchers, with a strong emphasis on the RESAVER pan-European pension fund. Indi Seehra (LSE, RESAVER Chair), Philippos Mannaris (AON), and Agustin Calvo (RESAVER) outlined the challenges researchers face regarding pensions and how RESAVER offers a practical, supplementary solution across the EU. Michalis Yiangou (The Cyprus Institute) shared their successful experience joining RESAVER.
The workshop fostered knowledge exchange and reinforced Cyprus’ commitment to building a sustainable research environment, with RESAVER highlighted as a key tool for securing researchers’ long-term financial wellbeing.
